You are looking at Gluten Free onion rings people! If you live near Heber City, Ut, make the trek and go to Spin Cafe. They're all about being organic, but not in such a hippie way which is refreshing at times. The service was alright, when I say alright, I mean not that awesome, but the food was delicious. Everything is almost gluten free... they have sandwiches served without the bun of course, soups, french fries, salads (I got the caesar with blue cheese dressing- DELICIOUS!) It was nice to know that the dressing was GF and so was the soup and fries and rings. Part of the Cafe is also a gelato bar. Go treat yourself right now!

Pamela's Bread
Holy smokes people this bread is amazing. Yes it's a "mix" but who cares really? It's so delicious! That's what I just ate for lunch (and I added some more later because it's that good!) It didn't come out crumbly like that, I just separated it when it I put bread on it. It's moist & dense, flavorful and thick. It doesn't crumble which is the best part.
On the back are tons of other ways to use the bread..like rolls and stuff. Also, this big packet does NOT come with yeast packets...so go buy some GF yeast packets at the market. BUT the little-r packets do come with yeast.
TIP: I first tried it in California.. and I followed the instructions perfectly and it came out perfectly. Now I'm back in Utah so I figured out how to change the instructions because of the high altitude, and it says to not add the last 2 tbsp of water if you're in high altitudes.
You can read all about Pamela's products here and here is her bread mix. If you can't find some in local stores (I found mine at Stella Lucy's in SC), go to Amazon to purchase the bread in bulk. You will not regret it!

Portland, OR gluten free pizza
While in Portland for only a few hours, we found this pizza place right in downtown. They had the option of getting a GF and Vegan pizza. When we walked in, I was worried because it looked like flour was falling everywhere, it's not the cleanest place (which I think gave it it's charm.. You know typical pizza place) and the guys behind the counter looked like they really didn't care if they cross contaminated anything.
I was soon mistaken. The service was awesome, the pizza even more amazing with a sweet and flavorful sauce, and the bread was to die for. I am very sensitive to cross contaminations and wasn't pinching my stomach 30 minutes later. I was almost about to cry when I finished the last piece.
It took 20 minutes to cook so they advise us gf people to call ahead.

GF Burgers in Park City, UT
My husband & I were up in Park City a couple weekends ago, and stumbled upon this place, Flippin Burgers. The owner's wife has celiac so they know a lot about it. They even have GF buns.. so you don't have to do the whole lettuce protein style burger there.
The only downside is they cook their fries with their breaded chicken nuggets.

Wallabys Smokehouse in Utah
If you are in Utah and close to Provo/Orem, you HAVE to check out this glorious place. I just discovered it and want to eat there everyday. It's affordable, full of flavor, and they are very knowledgeable about GF items. I ordered the pull pork with rice & baked beans. So delicious. The portions were massive, so I saved the rest and ate it the next day.
They cater, can get to-go orders, dine in, the whole bit.

GF Bakery in Sandy, UT
I just got an email about a GF bakery opening August 21 in Sandy, UT. Your joking right? This is going to make everyone's lives so much easier. There are those times when we finally bake something amazing with only GF ingredients, or we search for the kind that are naturally GF, but it's hard. Atleast for me it is. I miss not being able to go to a cupcake shop and find the tastiest one there is. Or going to a birthday party and having to eat ice cream only.
Anyways, I am very excited about this and will definitely be there the opening day to try everything out..
here's the email:
"A new gluten free bakery is opening in Sandy called Eleanor's Bake Shop! The grand opening is this Saturday, August 21. Go for free samples and goodies! The bakery is being opened by the family of Jamie Turley, one of our own Celiac Club members. Click here for directions."

GF Chinese Food- Salt Lake City
Holy smokes. I had heard from my fellow celiac comrades about this place 10 miles north of Salt Lake City called Mandarin, but our paths just haven't met and I haven't actually been, until last Monday.
IT WAS AMAZING! They had tons of menu items to choose from that were gluten free. They weren't modified items, where they had to go out of their way to make them gluten free and the entire time that you order until you leave the place you are worried you'll get sick--, they have separate stoves, frying pans, corn starches to fry things with- and a whole section in the kitchen dedicated to us GF people. It's truly amazing. My husband almost broke out in tears he was so happy for me. Mainly because we've never felt so trusting to any place we've eaten at and we haven't eaten Chinese food in over 8 months.
I ordered the Mongolian Beef w/ broccoli (best decision I've made all year) & he ordered the mango chicken (which was the special that night) and already gluten free.AND fried rice that was more than delicious.
While we were sitting there, we noticed a family that was sat behind them, with a son that had a peanut allergy. Oh don't worry, they had a peanut allergy menu as well to offer him.
I'm going to stop my rambling and hope that you live close enough to feel motivated to go. Besides being totally worry free, it's a great enviornment, with all the workers being family. It's just fabulous.

I can't wait..
To have have my own home where I can have my own porch with my own bbq to cook ONLY gluten-free entrees on. I am sick of this tin-foiled meat and want it charred and grilled and smokey. Yum yum yum. I am saving up for something like this beauty at costco..

Puffy {german} Pancakes
When I was first diagnosed with celiac, a friend of mine gave me GF pancake mix that wasn't the greatest. I actually hated it and it's not because I wasn't used to the texture of different uses of flour, but it just really was horrendous. I have tried it since, and it's still bad. But these homemade german pancakes are amazing! I have used Bob's Red Mill's all-purpose flour and lately I've been using Namaste flour (which in my opinion in the yummiest).
My sister-in-law Lindsay is pretty much the best cook of all time. She has a recipe blog that I visit weekly to do new recipes. This one below is really good and can be GLUTEN FREE!
6 eggs
1 cup flour -GF
1 cup milk
1/2 tsp salt
1/3 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
3/4 of a cube of butter
Melt the butter in a 375 degree oven in a 9x13 glass pan. Put all of the ingredients except the butter in a blender and blend until smooth. When the butter is melted pour the batter into the hot pan and bake for 20-25 minutes until it is puffy and golden in color. Serve with homemade maple syrup and strawberries.
Enjoy and tell me what you think !

Z PIZZA
I was just in California on a long vacation, about 6 weeks. And about every week, I had Z PIZZA twice. I couldn't help myself once I found out they have GF pizza's there! They don't make the dough there, because they are very aware of the cross contaminations that will happen if they do. But they have them made somewhere, and they make the rest there. They put them in their own containers, and seperate from the rest of the pizza ovens. It's great! And you can make any pizza. This one pictured above is my favorite that I ordered almost everytime- Italian. Of course you get the grainy texture with the dough- just like you get with anything that's GF, but it's still so good. GO GET SOME NOW!
Here it shows all the different locations.

Play-Doh for kids & their moms.
I am not a mom yet, but when I heard a few months ago, that play-doh is packed full of wheat, I felt something die in my heart. I imagined myself with doctor gloves, struggling to keep them on while playing with my future kids. Today I had a taste of it when my niece Jade asked me to get some out of the tube for her. I wanted so bad to just sit with her and create little dinosaurs with her. But no. I stayed far far away.
If you know your kids have them, and worry about them eating it or getting rashes on their hands (which you should), make your own! I found a recipe for gluten-free kind here .
Gluten-Free Play Dough |
Ingredients: ½ cup rice flour ½ cup cornstarch ½ cup salt 2 teaspoons cream of tartar 1 cup water 1 teaspoon cooking oil Food coloring, if desired Directions: Mix ingredients. Cook and stir on low heat for 3 minutes or until it forms a ball. Cool completely before storing in a sealable plastic bag. |

Stella Lucy
I've been visiting my family in San Clemente, California, and have visited (more than 3 times in 2 weeks) this gluten free market near Del Mar street. It's amazing! It's called Stella Lucy Gluten-Free Market . I walk in there care-free and if I have any questions on products I've never tried, they tell me how they are. They'll soon be moving to a larger location so they can carry meats & more refrigerated items but for now, it's this little location. It's right next to Velvet yogurt.
They don't carry this bread, which I was bummed about, but I found other solutions :)

Chipotle Mexican Grill
I love it when I find franchises that are all over the U.S. that I know is gluten-free. Not like, "We can accommodate you and maybe you'll get sick?" but everything, except the flour tortillas are GF. It makes traveling so much easier, and just one more place to eat on the list. So just order a burrito bowl and it's somewhere around $5.49. And very yummy. The meat is A-OK too.
(I promise to update this more. I've been on vacation, and still am, but have realized how I've neglected this so I am back!)
